1. What results have you seen from Pilates? (Expected and unexpected)
When I first started coming to the REV Pilates Gym, I was a bit nervous about my ability to follow along with the classes. Being a little along in age, I was concerned about my lack of physical strength, my weak knees, and my frozen shoulders. I expected that through regular attendance, I would lose some weight and build strength.
At first it was a struggle, but after a few months I noticed that I was getting stronger. Before lifting anything heavy, I used to wonder, “can I lift that?” But now I can pick things up with ease. I’ve improved my flexibility and my knees have become 10 years younger! I may not have lost much weight, but I have gained confidence.
2. What is Pilates’ biggest impact to your daily routine or favorite activities?
The impact of Pilates has shown up in a lot of my everyday activities. For example, I used to grab everything I could possibly need from my bedroom before heading downstairs, because I was not going to make it back up for a while. But now, I can not only climb the stairs with ease, I can run up and down, too!
Pilates has also helped me enjoy my hobbies more. For instance, my improved stamina allows me to enjoy my weekly hikes with my husband more, because I am able to climb steep paths while taking fewer breaks. Also, as a singer, I used to be limited in my techniques because I didn’t know how to control my core muscles. But now I have more awareness of those muscles and it has helped my singing become more comfortable.
3. How long have you been practicing Pilates and how did you find REV Pilates Gym?
I’ve only been attending REV Pilates Gym for six months, since March. My daughter had started attending first and ‘forced’ me to sign up. Before that, I never went to the gym for several reasons. Mainly, I don’t like exercise and I hate getting sweaty.
But I started out at REV taking the midday classes, and the teachers have been so helpful and patient with me. I realized that Pilates is a fun way of exercising. Now, I’m excited for my classes!

I’m a wife and a mother of 3, in my fifties. I was a music performance major at George Mason University, where my youngest daughter now attends. These days, I conduct my church choir and participate in a local choir as a hobby. My other hobbies include hiking, cooking, and watching Netflix and Korean dramas.
