If you have ever tried Reiki, then there is a good chance you feel strongly about it. Maybe you would describe your experience as ethereal, a life-saving grace. Or perhaps your thoughts swing the other way and you’re sure it’s a bunch of hocus-pocus, –up there with the likes of Miss Cleo and her crystal ball. Perhaps you have heard someone mention Reiki when talking about healing, yoga, or meditation.
But, what is Reiki, exactly? Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing practice that can transform one’s life balance. I first heard about Reiki from a friend when I was in my 20s. She found herself in a less-than-desirable place in life. My friend was struggling to feel at peace in her body and with her relationships. She was stuck and unsure, having a hard time moving forward with life. She started getting regular Reiki treatments as part of holistic therapy she had been receiving. As a result, her life seemingly took a 180 change. All of a sudden she was clear on what she needed to do and where she was to go. Her career took off. Her love life took off. More so, she was calm and centered and carried herself with a confidence I hadn’t seen before. She was simply ethereal.
I had no idea what Reiki was (I actually thought it was a form of massage, confusing it with reflexology), but I knew I wanted some! And while it took me 20 years (I’m a bit of a late bloomer), I finally discovered the power of Reiki for myself and now I swear by this ancient Japanese healing practice. Reiki TreatmentsInterestingly, one of the bigger challenges I have met as a Reiki practitioner has been figuring out how to explain what Reiki is and how it works to those who know little or nothing about it. The truth is, I can’t really explain how it works. I only know how it makes me feel. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki is a simple technique to relieve stress and pain, and promotes wellness. Reiki is like a mediation I give with my hands. It is a non-invasive energy healing modality where, as a practitioner, I place my hands on or slightly above your fully clothed body in a series of hand positions.
Healing is initiated by allowing me to assist you in activating the relaxation response, which helps you access and activate your own, powerful and inherent, self-healing abilities. Your body balances itself from a very deep level. It is almost always found to be profoundly relaxing and meditative. The body will not run properly when its energy flow is blocked, stuck, stagnant, or otherwise hampered. Symptoms of such stuck energy vary, but could include decreased energy levels, lack of mental clarity, emotional distress, and physical pain and/or illness. When providing a Reiki treatment, it is my goal to ensure the current of energy is flowing, which will in turn promote wellness and allow the body to heal itself. As a Reiki practitioner I can feel the ebb and flow of your energy through my hands (it feels like a buzzing, like pins and needles) …Once I feel the flow or lack thereof of this energy, I am able to move it with certain techniques to help balance the energetic system.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, and mind (and spirit). Effects of Reiki include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. It is often used for stress and pain management. Benefits of Reiki may include: Increased energy levels, Increased mental clarity, Reduction in stress, tension, anxiety, and depression, Emotional healing and stability, Clearing and balancing of your body’s energy centers, Relief from chronic pain, Strengthened immune system.
Reiki can only do good and can never cause harm.I could talk all day about Reiki but the experience explains more than words could.
If you’re curious, I highly recommend seeking out a Reiki practitioner for a treatment.
