1. When did you start Pilates/what drew you to REV Pilates Gym?

I started pilates almost 2 years ago when my friend invited me for a trial class.  I knew immediately it was what I had been looking for. I had heard great things about Pilates but had never tried it until REV. As I weighed the financial commitment, I felt that REV was worth it because it is an investment in my health and especially healthy aging.

2. Tell us about yourself… what are your interests outside the studio?

This year I became an empty nester after being a stay at home mom for 28 years!  My husband and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. We have 4 kids ages 18 to 28. Our family is unique because my husband went to West Point and served in the Army for 20 years, but our son and daughter go to the Naval Academy. Our two older girls both live in NYC. I have my Masters degree in Foreign Service and have enjoyed getting to know internationals over the years. My favorite assignment in the Army was living at SHAPE, NATO’s military headquarters in Belgium, for 3 years. During the last 16 years that we’ve been in VA, I’ve counseled single moms at a Pregnancy Center and helped Muslim immigrants adapt to life in the US through an outreach ministry called the Oasis Friendship Center. Last year I started volunteering with ESL students at Falls Church High School. Though I vowed never to do another college application, I recently helped a young immigrant submit an application to NOVA. This year I’ve been writing a book, taking some cooking classes, and my husband and I have gone on four 40+ mile bike rides. We also spend a lot of time in Annapolis where we have a second home.

3. What positive changes have you seen since joining?

My shape is a positive change. I haven’t lost a lot of weight but my shape has changed. My waist is more defined, I am stronger and more flexible. I can go on these long bike rides without much training because I am fit.

4. What keeps you coming back?

I love the whole feel of the place, the small class size, the attentive instructors, the friendly faces, the soft music, the fact that there are no televisions! I love the flexibility of scheduling. Each week I choose the classes that fit my schedule. I love how I feel after I exercise. REV is the perfect studio for me!
